Back to reality…

My apologies on updates throughout last week, but talk about a FULL SCHEDULE!  In a good way.  The ICCA really is a wonderful group.  It’s filled with passionate collectors that are ACTIVE in all aspects of everything that encircles the concept of being “addicted to collecting corkscrews”.  It’s fantastic to be surrounded by so many addicts!

The meeting was hosted by Josef and Sue L’Africain.  Thank you to both of them for their hard work and pulling off a fantastic AGM for us all!  The Hotel Monaco was wonderful!  The architectural tour was amazing and I so loved the “Devil in the White City” Tour, focusing on the 1893 Columbian Exposition Worlds Fair.  Let’s not forget our fancy dinners at the House of Blues, Smith and Wollensky (my favorite!), and The Drake Hotel (one word…FABULOUS!)

As far as corkscrews go, yes, there were plenty.  But we had not one, but TWO special presentations by fellow collectors!  The first was given by Don Bull on Chicago Corkscrews (Patentee’s, Manufacturer’s, Advertising..).  Amazing!  And the second was given by John Morris.  He focused on American Patents that have been finally been found, Wanna Be Patents, and New Discoveries.  All I can say is “WOW!”  Thank you Don and John!

The week ended up at Bob Kimball’s home for a showing of his corkscrew collection.  Um..SO MANY CORKSCREWS!!  Thank you Bob & Nancy for welcoming us into your home and sharing your collection with us.  We actually stayed long enough to eat with them TWICE!  Now that’s hospitality you cannot pass up!  I always feel like a kid in a candy store when drooling over a fellow corkscrew collectors collection…  Here are a few pictures.  And in case you didn’t know, Bob also collects John Deer Tractors!  Who knew?!  One day I will find that Howard Ross Blue Pig for you!

I’ve started a new job here in Chicago.  I’m working at Mariano’s Fresh Market.  The store I’m working at is having it’s Grand Opening today.  Like I said, it’s been a wonderful past week of corkscrewing around, but now it’s back to reality…  More later!
